Making Halves

Favourite Fruit

We have been doing statistic investigation in class. In small groups we created our own investigations, asked people questions, collected information and put our results into a bar graph. Here is an example of our favourite fruits. As you can tell from our graph, we all like fruit and most people like strawberries. Yum! Now we feel like eating fruit salad.

Fane Flaws

We have made a Fane Flaws movie by using powerpoint. Fane Flaws is a New Zealand artist that uses his art to make it into moving art. He made the video for Radio with Pictures. We have used powerpoint to make our video and used shapes and inserted our own instrumental music track. We think our videos are cool but the take a while to create. We hope you enjoy them.

The Very Special Post

We got a letter from Miss McKay and Granny Margaret. We are very lucky to have two letters from two very special people. Granny Margaret also made us a special art badge. She painted a circle using watercolour paints and wrote " Room 6, Porritt School, Is Really Cool". We loved them and wore them with PRIDE. Miss McKay also sent us a video of our assembly and other bits and pieces for Miss Fesili.

Ezra the Dorritto Thief

We are learning to write interesting and descriptive stories. Here is a story that we wrote about Mrs Fesili's (Miss Fesili's mum) cat. His name is Ezra and he is a greedy cat.

Yum, yum, thought Ezra as he licked his lips. Ezra's green eyes stared at the big bag of Dorrittos. Ezra clawed his way up the table, as quiet asa mouse. He sneaked up and poked his head in the bag and sneakily started to flick the chips towards him. He licked his lips and he could taste the salty chips. "Meow!" said Ezra. That was delicious he thought as he went looking for his next feast.

On Saturday, I went to Norsewood. It was a very, very, super long ride. It was an hour drive. We were going past lots of sheep and cows. Right in the middle, my dad said "you could have brought your little DVD player." Soon we came to a town. It was only a small town. We came to another town. It was bigger, then we came to Norsewood. We went in. Then we went to the cash register lady and we went on the computer so they can ring us up to get socks. And then we went on the flying fox. After, we went home. It was an hour too but my dad took the wrong road to the ice-cream shop so I got a coffee one.

Save the Kiwis!

We have been learning about extinction and endangered species. We have found out that endangered means that the animal could nearly be extinct. The Kiwi birds are very special to us because you can only find Kiwi's here in New Zealand. We have also found out that the Kiwi's are endangered!!! Dinosaur Discovery

Yesterday we made fossils at the Aquarium and looked at bones from Joan Wiffen. We got to see poo from the dinosaurs. So Tyler smelled it and we broke the rocks too. We got to see the moa skeleton. Then we got to see the movie of Joan Wiffen.

Dinosaur Discovery - Diplodocus

There has been roaring and stomping coming from Room 6. We are learning about dinosaurs. We have been learning lots about Diplodocus.

Here is what we know about Diplodocus:

The Diplodocus is BIG and it is WIDE. It can stretch it's neck. - By Alexis

The Diplodocus has sharp claws. Some Diplodocus can stretch their neck out to get leaves. The Diplodocus has a fat tummy. - By Kings

The Diplodocus has a long neck and he can reach trees. He has sharp claws. - By William

We also know that a Diplodocus:
* Is a herbivore - It means they only eat plants and leaves.
* The mummy Diplodocus lays its eggs in the forest
* It is part of the Sauropod family.

The Royal Wedding

We watched William and Catherine get married. Kate's gown was beautiful and so was the cover on her head. The cover on her head is called a veil. Prince William looked handsome. They are now Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Camilla looked nice. The queen looked gorgeous in yellow. Pippa looked pretty. Prince Harry looked handsome too. They had a kiss at the end and Willliam thought that Kate looked so beautiful that he had to kiss her again.

Brandon's tonsils

Brandon had an operation to get his tonsils out. He has been really brave and came to School to show us his tonsils. Your tonsils are in the back of your throat, and if they get sore and infected you may need to get them removed. Brandon can only eat jelly and ice-cream because his throat is sore. We miss you Brandon and we are proud of you.

Today we had a visitor in Room 6. It was Floppsy. Floppsy is Miss Fesili's doll. She used to play with her when she was little. Floppsy is cute. We all wrote stories about her and Hannah and Kings are going to share their stories.

Floppsy is a rabbit with a long nose. She has long rabbit ears. She has a heart on her hips.

Easter Crackle Nests

Mrs Morrell, Jessica, Carl, Angelina and Kody made chocolate crackle nests. We also did a colouring in competition to win Warehouse vouchers. We made the crackles out of Rice bubbles, cocoa, icing sugar, coconut and Kremelta. We stirred it around and put it on the stove to cook. We put it in the patty cases and then we put it in the fridge. We stuck chocolate eggs on the nest. They were delicious! Yum yum yum!!!

Room 6 ANZAC day

Today we had our own ANZAC day. We had it today, because the real ANZAC day is in the holidays. We made some ANZAC biscuits. The Anzac biscuits are healthy and made the soldiers strong. They were yummy. We also made poppies to remember all the soldiers that died. We are proud to be New Zealanders. Lest we forget.

I had to go to the Warehouse to print off the photos. Most of the photos were from home. My aunty helped me to do it. I did the writing but I wanted to do the frames more. We had to take the pictures out of my picture frames in the sitting room and the one with my aunties and uncles in it.

Our special visitor

We have started our phonics programme. In our phonics programme we are learning to make the sounds of letters and to hear the sounds in words. To help us say the sounds we had a special visitor. Her name is Trixie. She is a triceratops and needed some help to say the final sound in words. We helped her to say the sound and then we wrote the letter so she could see the letter. She is funny and likes it when we help her with the sounds.

St Patricks Day

HAPPY ST PATRICKS DAY!

Our class celebrated St Patricks Day. We all wore something green and had a fun day. Miss Fesili put on some Irish music and before school some of the children had a chance to do some Irish dancing. It was a fun day! St Patrick is famous because he made all the snakes in Ireland disappear by playing his drum.

We are lucky to have Liam in our class because he and his mum made some shortbread biscuits with green icing and sprinkles. They were YUM! Thank you Liam and Liam's mum!

Hannah looked beautiful with her green sparkly hair and hat.

Maybe we might have the luck of the Irish with us!

Lily's Top Student Award

SPCA collection for Christchurch

As well as our coin trail some people brought in cans of pet food for the lost and scared pets in Christchurch. Brandon and Jessica brought some pet food in. Well done Brandon and Jessica.

Christchurch Coin Trail

We all brought some coins to donate to Christchurch. We put our money on the CHCH sign. The girls put their money on the pink one and the boys on the white. We feel happy that we help other people in Christchurch. We raised $439.40! We are happy that we raised so much money!!!

I went to get my ear's pierced in town. There were some things that put your earrings in. They looked like staplers. It hurt a little bit. They were pretty, really pretty. They are pink and sparkly.
